MARCH 11th – WHEELCHAIR RAMP INSTALLATION — on Saturday Morning, Pat Bucknell, Dave Azeltine, Ilias Murr, Lyell Clark and two high schoolers (Carol O’Rourke’s grandsons – Devin and Evan) installed this 12-foot ramp for a lady who recently became wheelchair bound.

MIDDLE OF WINTER OPEN HOUSE Sat, Feb 11th, 4-6pm @ the Lacey Sr Center. Great turnout. Great chili. Plenty of fun. Got to meet some amazing folks. The chili and desserts were wonderful. The dessert dash auction brought in $639 to be donated to Mary Bridge Children’s Cancer Fund for Families

Nov 20, CHARTER NIGHT We met at Rivers Edge restaurant on the Tumwater Golf Course. Intimate venue, good food, and wonderful fellowship. 37 people attending with 3 guests from MD19C: 1VP Lisa Ikeda – guest speaker, 2VP Bob Johnson, Marilynn Danby, Secretary. Lisa spoke about the redistricting program, Mike Ragan hosted the card game (which Linda Bucknell won), and our Silent Auction brought in $185. Sharon Sikes presented the Lion of the Year to Laurel Strong-Olson (in absentia…she was out with friends on her birthday); Kathy Cross-Reece presented Connie Short with Rookie of the Year 2021-22; Jim Perrou and Joel Graves received the Melvin Jones award.

OCT – NOV THIRD GRADERS DICTIONARY PROJECT In November, we gave out 406 dictionaries to 3rd graders at six local schools (Chambers Prairie, Horizons, Lakes, Pleasant Glade, Faith Lutheran, Holy Family). Thank you to Paul Conroy, who tirelessly chairs this project, and those of you who helped him distribute the dictionaries (Peggy Rogers, Frankie Sokso, Connie Short). Sept 29th, Thursday, District Governor Club Visit.
JJ Budzak – our new 2022-23 district governor – visited our club. He spoke at length about how to grow the club, cooperation with other organizations, making visitors and new members feel welcome, attracting younger members, and more.

SEPT 9th Friday 11-1pm FIRST RESPONDERS DAY
Fire District 3 headquarters — at Pacific Ave and 1231 Franz Street. In conjunction with Lacey Lamplighters Lions, we read the governor’s proclamation, shared a giant cake, and then put on a chili feed with cornbread.

BELOW THE START OF A NEW LION’S YEAR 2022-2023


I said “RAIN OR SHINE–bring a rain coat or umbrella,” but little did I know that Saturday would be wonderful and Monday just as sunny, but Sunday was a deluge.
8th Annual Lacey Sunrise Lions Charity Golf Tournament–Sunday, May 15, 2022. Despite that, we had a good time, and we can say this fundraiser was successful.

WHITE CANE DAYS Raising money to help sight impaired people in ur community. May 6-7th Fri-Sat – only two days at the Lacey Grocery Outlet (on Marvin Road). Than you, Laurel, for chairing this event. Marty and his dad, Ike, left, and Paul.

On April 14th, we had ten members at All Kids Win, filling bins with food and things for homeless kids in the greater Thurston County area. POC: Berta Fender. Mission Statement: To end the cycle of homelessness one student at a time.

On Thurs Dec 16, 2021, we had a wonderful concert with club members Karen Taylor Good and Stowe Dailey. My favorite was the boom boom song. But I also liked the butter song…about their relationship.

After the StoweDailey Concert on Dec 16th, Lacey Sunrise Lions awarded a $150 check to Patty Sanderson, our Denny’s waitress, for appreciation and outstanding service.

CHRISTMAS PARTY
Potluck & White Elephant Gift Exchange
Sat Dec 18th FUN had by all. Great food. During White Elephant gift exchange, there was a question about whether a stolen gift could be restolen. Some said no; some said yes. So some gifts were restolen, some not. Will need rules for next year.

On Dec 9th ten volunteers bought gifts for the families, wrapped them, and gave them to Frankie Sokso. She delivered them to the Fire Dept–Firedog and club member Kevin Davenport. Then on Dec 12, the Lacey Fire District 3 Charity–Santa Firehouse gave the gifts to the families they had identified.

Wed Dec 15 & 22 Salvation Army Bell Ringing at Fred Meyer, 700 Sleater Kinney Rd SE. Money raised here changes lives. Five 2-hour shifts: 10-12pm, 12-2, 2-4, 4-6pm each day.

DECEMBER 2020 :: JERRY’S KIDS
Jan Goebel’s husband–Jerry–was a teacher at Pleasant Glade Elementary School. He started a program to help famlies over the holidays. She kept it going after he passed and calls it Jerry’s Kids. We budget $1,000 but also take donations over the holidays. In 2020 we gave them over $2,000. This year we gave a little more than before.

CHARTER NIGHT – 46th Anniversary Celebration, Awards Dinner & Silent Auction Sat Nov 20th We started visiting at 3:30pm and then the program started at 4:10pm. KL Kathy was awarded the Melvin Jones honor. We used over-sized playing cards for the raffle and Mike Ragan (Queen of Spades) won. The silent auction items were a hit and raised a lot of money.

November :: Dictionaries for 3rd Graders
Thanks to Paul Conroy, 360 dictionaries were delivered to 3rd Graders around the area. To be involved next year, be sure to fill out the volunteer application on the home page.

FLAG REPAIR PARTY Sat Oct 23rd 9am at the Lacey City Police storage building–6204 Ruddell Road. Seven people showed up and in one hour they processed the 650 flags. Many hands make light the work. Thank you to Mike, Laurel, Peggy, Lyell, Frankie, John and Pat. Now, the dirty flags need to be washed and remounted on the flag poles. Yes, and we’ll put out another call for he

On Sat Oct 9th we took down the 16 foot ramp in less than an hour (see photos below). These people bought the house, which already had the ramp. With the price of lumber now, I am glad they called us to take it away. Within a year, we will probably find someone who needs a 16-foot long ramp.

OCT 9 SPAGHETTI DINNER & BINGO Saturday, 4pm at the Lacey Senior Center — was a fun and successful event. We raised over $700.

OCT 2 Roadside Clean Up Sat 9-10am. With nine people, the roadside cleanup took only 25 minutes. But there was a lot of trash and it needed to be done–as you can see by the pile. Carpenter Road at RooLan Care Center (see cars parked in triangle of turn). We walk down the road to Pacific Ave, picking up trash, chatting with friends, and we are usually done in less than an hour. Easy. Time well spent.

SEPT 30 MD19C District Governor Luis Montes-Gonzalez visit. We had our best turnout yet…22 people at Dennys and 13 people on Zoom (post-pandemic). Gil sold raffle tickets, it was pleasantly noisy, with fun had by all. Luis spoke about clubs working together and honoring those who have been Lions for many years.
